Mental Health Services
The Mental Health Department provides a wide range of services to assist
and treat individuals and their families who are experiencing emotional
difficulties or mental health problems. Services are available to
anyone 6 years of age and older.

Chartiers mental health services fall under the following categories:
outpatient, residential, rehabilitation, and clinical support.
Mental Health services may include:
Outpatient Services
Treatment may include individual, group, family, and marital therapy
for individuals needing help with either a short-term or long-term situation.
For individuals experiencing increased difficulties, programs are designed
to stabilize their symptoms and reduce the risk of hospitalization. Chartiers' Transition Program specializes in combining psychosocial rehabilitation
and outpatient services to stabilize symptoms for individuals at risk
of hospitalization. Chartiers also provides specialized outpatient services
to individuals with mental retardation.
Partial Hospitalization Services
Partial Hospitalization is commonly referred to as a Day Program. It is
an acute psychiatric treatment program based upon a group therapy
model. Participation includes individual and group therapy, discussion
groups, and socialization activities. Individuals attend the program
3 - 6 hours per day as clinically appropriate.
Residential
Services
The residential programs are designed to meet specific needs of the clients
and extend the continuum of care provided by Chartiers Center's staff.
The settings of the residential programs range from a structured therapeutic
living environment to having staff available only on an as needed basis.
One program, the Residential Treatment Program, is unique in offering
short-term intensive treatment in a residential setting for the purpose
of avoiding inpatient hospitalization and maintaining the individual
in the community. Chartiers also offers a specialized Geriatric Residential
Service. All the residential programs aim to assist adults with psychiatric
problems to function independently in the community.
Rehabilitation Services
The Training and Social Rehabilitation Program provides an opportunity
for individuals with mental illness to participate in structured group
activities, prevocational skills training, socialization, recreation,
field trips, and psycho-educational groups. The Drop-In Center
is an extension of the program and encourages community integration through
participation in special events.
Support Services
Chartiers' staff advocate for consumers to receive the appropriate services. When necessary, referrals are made to other service providers. Specialized
services provide outreach and education to community workers to help identify
individuals who may need mental health services. In addition, the Student
Assistant Team attempts to identify students at risk and offer
assistance through educational groups, interventions, and training for
local school personnel.
A family support group is available for families
and friends of the mentally ill. Visit Family
Support.
