A Grant From Pittsburgh Indian Community and Friends Makes Computer Lab Possible for T&SR Program

Jul 20, 2017

computer lab for websiteChartiers Center’s Training and Social Rehab Program received a grant from the Pittsburgh Indian Community and Friends (PICAF). The grant was used to create a computer lab for the consumers in the program. According to Amy Randall, T&SR Coordinator, the computers are a welcome addition to the program and will provide a valuable resource to the consumers. Some ideas the staff have for the computer lab is to create resumes and explore job opportunities. In addition, the consumers will be using the computers to research topics and information that they will share during their groups.
For some, this may be a new opportunity and for others it is an opportunity for guided classes on how to use and search the internet.  The program staff are excited to be able to offer this valuable resource to many of the consumers who do not have personal computers. Where they will travel via the internet is endless. There is a lot of adventure in their future.
Many thanks to the PICAF organization for making this possible.

What Is Mobile Psychiatric Rehabilitation?

Psychiatric Rehabilitation Services are founded on the firm belief that people can and do recover from mental illness, including the most severe and persistent diagnoses. Psych Rehab providers define recovery not by a lack of symptoms, but by the presence of meaning and purpose in one’s life. Participants in Chartiers Center’s Mobile Psych Rehab (MPR) program choose the recovery goals they want to work on and then meet regularly with their MPR staff to learn, enhance, and practice the skills they need to reach those goals.

Healing Invisible Wounds

For many Veterans, the battle doesn’t end when they return home. The experiences of deployment, combat exposure, loss, and the transition back to civilian life can take a profound toll on mental well-being. While every Veteran’s story is unique, the mental-health challenges they face often share common threads: post-traumatic stress, depression, anxiety, substance use, and a lingering sense of isolation. The good news is that effective, compassionate treatment options exist—and awareness and accessibility have grown dramatically over the past decade.
