On February 11, 2025, Chartiers Center convened our Employee Engagement and Mission, Vision & Values Committees to create a new tagline and set of values that best describe our 50+ year agency today! This group had staff from all levels and backgrounds participating in our discussion and the decision-making process. Our goal was creating 4-6 values that described our services and a new tagline that reinforced our mission, as well the new values.
We started our session by talking about our personal values and transitioning to talking about, the at current, Chartiers values. We broke up into 3 groups to talk about the top 3 values the groups think represent Chartiers. After bringing all the groups back together we discussed which words worked best and why. After a lively discussion we finalized our choices to six below.
Inclusion: We provide a safe space for all people, creating a sense of belonging among everyone we support. It’s our responsibility to break barriers, stand against stigmas and create opportunities where anyone can thrive.
Creativity: We believe creativity is more than just artistic capabilities. It’s a way of problem-solving and self-expression, allowing our consumers to navigate unique challenges that don’t present a “one-size-fits-all” solution.
Innovation: We’re committed to exploring emerging technologies and embracing new methods of supports that redefine the way our consumers live. By embracing our ever-changing world, we’re able to better serve our consumers and work towards a future where the possibilities are endless.
Collaboration: With a focus on creating a holistic approach, we work together with consumers, families, staff and community members to build personalized treatment plans. By coming together, we align on goals and objectives to achieve individualized supports tailored to our clients’ needs.
Resilience: We stand strong during periods of adversity and navigate challenges with vigor. While our consumers may come across uncertainties during their journeys, we provide them with the tools they need to adapt and overcome hardships.
Personal Improvement: We foster an environment where our consumers feel empowered to transform their lives and achieve their fullest potential. Through our unique model of care, we encourage clients to develop their own goals and work towards them on their own terms.
We started our tagline brainstorm with a fun activity, Tagline Bingo, to get everyone thinking about taglines they’d heard before and get the creative juices flowing. Then we talked about what makes a good tagline, along with some guidelines. We also looked at our competitor’s taglines and logos and discussed what worked well and why.
Breaking off into groups again we came up a total of 6 taglines. Each group worked together to craft 2 different taglines that spoke to our mission and new values. Each group had at least 1 tagline that related back to our logomark, the Chartiers Tree.
Our CEO, Sue Coyle, presented the final 6 to our Strategic Planning Committee who selected “Planting Hope, Nurturing Improvement“. George Brice from our IDD Achievement Program in Dormont came up with the selected tagline and we think it’s fantastic, bright and optimistic! And it relates back to everyone’s favorite Tree!
We feel like these values represent Chartiers Center today and our approach to our services, because it came directly from our staff. Our new tagline carries us forward into the future to represent our staff, consumers and services.
Here’s what our staff had to say about our new values!
“Inclusion to me means making people around me feel valued, supported and feel as if they belong. As a part of the Billing and Payroll team, I have experienced Inclusion by having always been encouraged to participate in discussions and decisions. It has allowed me to be my true self without the fear of judgement and discrimination.” ~ Sangita Kadakia, Billing & Payroll Specialist
“During my day-to-day tasks, I often reframe my thought process for tasks into “What is another way to approach this” and try to think outside of the box. I also use creativity by engaging with the clients in a way that makes them feel comfortable (as Mental Health offices can be disengaging and mundane), and welcoming by asking them how their day is, and making the office environment warm. I also put up colorful and fun items in the office!” ~ Oliva Mattera, Administrative Service Coordinator
“I try to use a forward-thinking approach to ensure innovation and efficiency at the core in everything we do. This opens up endless possibilities, whether it’s streamlining processes, leveraging technology, or determining the best strategies to help retain and support our staff.” ~ Sherry Brill, Director of Human Resources
“Since the literal Latin translation of the word “collaboration” is working together, there is no better word for the Chartiers Centers social rehabilitation programs, Creative Recovery and C3. Daily, Adam, Rob and I work together to create these programs, with assistance from many other Chartiers Center staff. In doing so, we teach our participants how to work together. One cannot do any social rehabilitation with anyone without the collaboration of our team and our participants.” ~ Amy Randall, Social Rehabilitation Coordinator
“As a certified recovery specialist and someone in recovery, I see resilience every day. Resilience is about learning, adapting, and finding the strength to keep moving forward, even when the path is uncertain. Recovery is a shared journey, and resilience grows in community through connection, support, and the belief that setbacks do not define us. I don’t give people their resilience, they already have it! My role is to help them recognize it and to let them know that they are never alone in the process. In my work, I offer guidance, shared experiences, and provide a space where people can feel seen and supported. Whether it is through conversation, encouragement, or simply being present, I do my best to help individuals find confidence in their own ability to grow and heal. Recovery is never a straight path, but resilience makes it possible to keep going, and I am honored to play a part in helping others see the strength they already have within themselves.” ~ Marty Puchi, Certified Recovery Specialist
“In my private life, and when I come to work, my day revolves around Personal improvement. I strive to be better than I was yesterday, to be more efficient in the small things like making lunches or, helping a person on the bus, in general just being where I need to be, and doing what I need to be doing, before I’m asked. I still struggle with some tasks, but when I walk through the door my goal is to master my job.” George Brice, Direct Support Aide
