Rep Dan Miller Visits With Chartiers’ Consumers at the Dormont Program Site

May 30, 2017

Dan Miller corn hole          Chartiers Center Welcomes Rep Dan Miller
Chartiers Center was happy to welcome Rep Dan Miller to our program for adults with intellectual disabilities. Rep Dan Miller advocates and supports services for individuals with intellectual disabilities in his role as a legislator. During his visit to the program he was invited to participate in the many activities that were taking place as the program was celebrating the upcoming Memorial Day holiday.  As everyone was wearing their red, white and blue the individuals in the program were excited to greet Rep Dan Miller

This was the first time Rep Miller had visited Chartiers’ IDD Program and as he toured the facility he took the time to talk with staff and consumers. When talking with the staff he was interested in how long they had been working at Chartiers and what made the program special. He was also a willing participant to join in a game of corn hole, kerplunk (shout out to Tina’s dad who made a life size model of the game) and a special version of mini golf.   As Rep Miller’s visit came to a close he was photographed with our budding artists and a sample of their beautiful artwork.

What Is Mobile Psychiatric Rehabilitation?

What Is Mobile Psychiatric Rehabilitation?

Psychiatric Rehabilitation Services are founded on the firm belief that people can and do recover from mental illness, including the most severe and persistent diagnoses. Psych Rehab providers define recovery not by a lack of symptoms, but by the presence of meaning and purpose in one’s life. Participants in Chartiers Center’s Mobile Psych Rehab (MPR) program choose the recovery goals they want to work on and then meet regularly with their MPR staff to learn, enhance, and practice the skills they need to reach those goals.

Healing Invisible Wounds

For many Veterans, the battle doesn’t end when they return home. The experiences of deployment, combat exposure, loss, and the transition back to civilian life can take a profound toll on mental well-being. While every Veteran’s story is unique, the mental-health challenges they face often share common threads: post-traumatic stress, depression, anxiety, substance use, and a lingering sense of isolation. The good news is that effective, compassionate treatment options exist—and awareness and accessibility have grown dramatically over the past decade.
