INTELLECTUAL & DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES
Chartiers Center offers two specialized IDD Day Programs in Dormont designed to foster independence, build confidence, and support meaningful personal growth. Participants work alongside dedicated staff to strengthen fine and gross motor skills, enhance communication abilities, and develop supportive relationships that often last well beyond the program. Both programs also provide regular opportunities to engage in the community, encouraging natural supports, social inclusion, and increased mobility.
OUR DAY PROGRAMS
THE ACHIEVEMENT PROGRAM
The Achievement Program provides a structured environment where participants work closely with staff to build social skills, communication abilities, and independent living skills. Individuals focus on personal goals tailored to their strengths, creating a supportive path toward greater autonomy and self-confidence.
THE CHOICE CENTER
The Choice Center empowers participants by allowing them to select their daily activities based on their interests. Each day offers something new, as individuals collaborate with staff to engage in socialization, daily living skills, exercise, and motor skill development within a flexible, person‑centered environment.

THE FORWARD TOGETHER PROJECT
The Forward Together Project is a 100% community-based, person-centered, intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and autism program serving Allegheny and Washington Counties. This innovative program focuses on finding meaningful activities for individuals to participate in and become active members of their communities and neighborhoods.
Chartiers Center’s Forward Together Project creates and fosters partnerships that encourage inclusion, meaningful connections, and personal growth through social, vocational, and recreational activities within the communities of adults with IDD. To achieve this, we ask our individuals important questions such as: What matters to them? What do they need? What do they want to learn or should learn? How do they want to spend their day? Where do they want to go? Who would they like to work or volunteer with?
3 BENEFITS OF THE FORWARD TOGETHER PROJECT
1:3 GROUP RATIO
Smaller groups lead to more personalized attention to skills building and selecting the activities our individuals are interested in.
PERSONALIZED SKILLS BUILDING & ACTIVITY
From learning to do laundry, ride public transportation, budgeting, and more, our program gives participants individualized attention to improve skills to build confidence and live independently.
BUILD NATURAL SUPPORTS
Developing relationships with the members in their own communities so they can create an organic support system from within.
